Watching For Sunsets

Some of the most encouraging moments for the Dot & Dash Community take place behind the scenes. Behind the website traffic and order processing, behind the Dallas and Atlanta Market days, behind the phone calls and emails, and even behind the artisans designing each earring, bracelet or necklace. We love to hear about the times that our designs and words connect with the heart of a recipient. Last year, we began a "Dash of Kindness" initiative that has been such a fun part of our world at Dot & Dash. Today - we are sharing two stories that are full of connection, hope, smiles, and even a few tears!

The first story came in as a "thank you" through our website ... and we are sharing it with you now!

"I wanted to share how one of your pieces of jewelry impacted me ...

COURAGE. This word means more to me than it did a few months ago. One evening, we went to our favorite sunset spot with our family. After we parked, I got out of our truck. A woman from the car next to us walked over and said hello. She mentioned that she worked with a jewelry line designed in Austin and she showed me a few of the pieces. She asked me to select one to keep as a gift. I chose a necklace with the word “courage" written in Morse code. After I received the necklace, I decided to look up the specific definition of the word, "courage."

I immediately knew it was a God moment. 'Courage: strength in the face of pain or grief.'

The person sharing this gift had no idea that my husband was leaving early the next morning on a one way ticket to spend an indefinite amount of time with his dad and family before and after his dad passed. She had no idea that I was going to need courage to face the journey alone that was ahead of me with two little kids. She had no idea I would say goodbye to my father-in-law over FaceTime, heartbroken, alone with two kids depending on me that same day. She had no idea I would have to be strong when I felt weak. She didn’t know how much I would need courage over those next couple weeks. I’m glad she listened. I’m glad she got out of her car. I wore that necklace while my husband was away. It was like a tattoo around my neck, a reminder, a mark from God himself that I am indeed courageous and seen by Him even in the most difficult moments."

Our Dot & Dash Team also loves wandering in the great outdoors. Our second "Dash" story took place at Enchanted Rock, a beautiful Texas State Park. After our hike, we met an amazing Texas Park Ranger. Watching as she helped each park visitor, we thought a "drive by" jewelry giveaway might just make her day! She was full of smiles and absolutely surprised when we asked her to look through a few of our designs and decide which one she'd like to keep as a gift! Appropriately, she went with our beautiful "warrior" earrings.

We are grateful to meet inspiring people while watching a majestic sunset and discover new friends after a hike in a Texas State Park ... and we can't wait to see where our next "Dash" will take us!
